Health disparities exist among specific population groups in the United States (US) to attain the highest health potential observed by differences in incidence, prevalence, mortality, the burden of disease, and other adverse health indicators. It is a well-accepted idea that everyone should have a fair and equal opportunity to attain their full health potential—considered by many to be a fundamental human right and principle. Much effort over the past 30 years in the public health sector has focused on identifying and reducing racial health disparities.
